Girl's Power! Female Power in Disney Films.

by Francesco Carrese 10 Jan 2023 0 Comments
Female power has always been an important theme in Disney films, which have depicted the portrait of strong, courageous and independent women since the first films. Disney has been able to create female characters who have inspired generations of spectators to fight for their dreams and not to give up in the face of difficulties.

One of the first examples of a strong female character was Snow White, the protagonist of Disney's first animated feature film in 1937. Snow White is a young woman who is not intimidated by her evil stepmother and who ultimately manages to find her happiness with the help of animal friends.

Subsequently, Disney continued to represent strong female characters in other films such as Cinderella, who despite the difficulties and injustices suffered does not lose hope of realizing her dream of becoming a princess.

In "Beauty and the Beast", the protagonist Belle proves to be a courageous and intelligent woman, ready to risk her life to save her father's and to change the heart of the prince/beast.

Even in more recent films, Disney has continued to portray strong, independent female characters. Mulan, the protagonist of the 1998 animated film, is a young woman who decides to take her sick father's place to fight in the Chinese army and who proves to be a skilled warrior.

In Rapunzel, her character decides to leave her sheltered life and pursue her dream of discovering the world beyond her garden.

Furthermore, the recent success of the film "Frozen" starring the sisters Elsa and Anna, showed a representation of female power based on brotherly love and autonomy, where Princess Elsa learns to control her powers and not be afraid of show himself as he is, while Anna demonstrates courage and determination in facing every adversity to save her sister.

Overall, Disney has been able to create female characters that represent female power in a non-stereotypical way, showing how women can overcome difficulties and achieve their dreams.
These characters have been an inspiration to many young viewers and have helped create what we at Chico and Chica call "Girl's Power"!
